I wonder why it was a disaster for his computer?

VP3 will work, it will run under WINE (which is a virtual windows environment in Linux) though it does seem a little jumpy/laggy but that may be resolved with some updates.

Major downside that VP3 doesn't work lol. My mate Gareth at www.garethwitty.co.uk used it and it was a disaster for his computer. He would be happy to discuss it with you so drop him a message!

Well, there were no successful spambot registrations overnight (usually there'd be at least 10) so things are looking encouraging so far!

Good point - It seems that most spambots are written to target a certain piece of software. In this case the software is SMF (Simple Machines Forums).

The measures I've introduced use a customised registration form.

The answers given to the custom questions in the form are used to validate the registration.

If the wrong (or no) answer is given the registration will fail validation.

Because the spambots will be submitting their own version of the registration form they will not be answering the custom validation questions.

Ultimately this means that the spambot registration is rejected.

Would a spam bot not try every combination until it works? Comps can do millions of processes, as you know, in seconds. Could you do an IP block after so many unsuccessful attempts and add a "if you are blocked out please email xxxxx for assistance?"

Thanks,
Malcolm

Same, text you about playing the other day but it was at really short notice.

Could play pool some Saturdays before the football, would mean playing at around about 12 though and meeting you through there before walking over to the Stadium of Light.

Will do my best to enjoy the football, but no doubt in the first 3 or 4 weeks I'll be knackered within the first 20 minutes or so.
